Recycled sofa
CONCEPT: This was a private project to re-upholster an old sofa. The new materials had to be sustainable and low cost. The work had to be carried out as quickly as possible. This was because the frame would not fit through the door and had to be done in situ.
DESIGN: The original upholstery was stripped away and replaced with coir and wool matting which are natural materials. To keep costs low and to speed up the job items were appropriated from other areas of the home. For example a set of bed linen was used as filling cases and covered with an old curtain.
MATERIALS: The fillings used are biodegradable once composted. The original frame was reused.
