OYE Low seat

CONCEPT: The OYE low seat is an investigation into upholstery materials and processes. It also embraces the continually nomadic existence we live, particularly within the city where temporary living is common. DESIGN: The origami design allows the seat to be constructed and taken apart. The replicated cushion elements are folded within a chosen blanket and held with strapping across the back of the seat. They can be placed together to enlarge the seating area. MATERIALS: The major problem is the balance between price and the quality. Pesticides are often used in cotton production but the organic industry is small, so expensive. Several materials were considered from recycled synthetic products to biodegradable natural fabrics and fillings. Organic denim and cotton were selected for the coverings and coir (coconut fibre) and wool matting were chosen as the filling. Unfortunately the lining materials had to be the industry norm. The choice of blanket is yours! Copyright Spinifex 2004
